Dragon Ball Z Super Collection Vol 1 Son Goku ???????Z ???

29 June 2010 13 Comments

Here is the first in a series of nine videos based on the Dragonball Z Super Collection! This is Vol.1 Son Gokou! Back in 1991 Bandai Japan embarked on two lines of action figures: The Super Collection (A series of Soft Vinyl figures with detailed sculpts and excellent paint jobs) and the cheaper Super Battle Collection (lower quality rubber/plastic figures). Both series were ultimately cancelled by Bandai Japan in 1993 with the Super Collection lasting nine volumes, and the Super Battle Collection lasting 10 volumes (plus a special Movie 7 set). While the Super Battle Collection was revived in 1994 by Bandai Asia, the Super Collection was never to be heard from again... The first figure is naturally that of Son Goku. He has articulation in the arms and waist. He comes with a small sticker sheet as well. Not much else can be said about this figure other than it's probably one of the greatest likenesses of Son Goku out there. The paint job is awesome as well. For a figure so old, it's really hard to figure out how the various toy companies who have handled the license since then can't get likenesses down. Coming up in February: Vol. 2 Vegeta Thanks for watching my first video as CCDBZ99. You can check out my other channel at www.youtube.com Thanks for watching! awesome can not want for the rest. sweet detail in the figure and always love that weird hair. Man still envy the music

Exactly, that’s what i thought. After he died, he trained with the North Kai, and started to wore the turtle symbol in the from of his Gi and the Kai symbol on the back.

  • CCDBZ99 said:

Yeah, which is kinda weird since the SBC Goku has the Kaiou sticker…and both figures came out around the same time.

Lawlz… but more to the point, it’s a very nice figure, though the stickers that came with it were both the logo for the Turtle School rather than North Kai, weren’t they?

Yeah, I really wish they went with a different name for this series…”Super Collection” is just…generic. Plus the confusion sets in with the SBC figures.

The SBC figures made in Japan are actually quite nicely done (and the box art is WAY better). Once production moved to Bandai Asia, the lameness set in. The figures beyond Broly are very poorly made until the end of the series pretty much.

But yeah, Super Collection > SBC. ^^

    Thanks! ^^

I totally agree. Most of the recent Dragonball toys look incredibly overdone. The thick layer of what appears to be mascara on newer figures totally ruins what might be a decent sculpt underneath it.

    Indeed.

Wow, I didn’t know much about DBZ toys in Japan, so I honestly thought these were the Super Battle Collection figures that later got imported over here before Irwin started making their own toys. My apologies for misunderstanding: compared to the SBC figures, there’s no contest. I’m kind of surprised that the sculpt is that good, though; that’s some fantastic work for a 1991 vinyl.

it is pretty detailed…which is quite nostalgic because toys and action figures of today are not…not to say that in the past that all toys were exact replicas of what each individual show portrayed but a lot of things in what we consider the present are just (excuse my bluntness) crap…any who…good video and it has different “flair” and videography style versus your sentai reviews…congrats…well I liked it thank you for sharing
