Strange, for a figure that is so “rare”, there sure are a lot of them around for sale, here and on E-bay. Hmmmm…

Assuming Heath Ledger did not die, this figure still would have been highly sought after by fans, but not at these exorbitant prices. Heath’s passing changed one thing – the insatiable greed and avarice of those willing to capitalize on his death.

The Joker is hard to find due to collectors/fans buying them and predatory dealers buying multiple copies at local stores to resell them at much higher prices, but the Joker figure is hardly “rare”. The actual chase figure of the “Movie Masters” series is Bruce Wayne, clearly denoted on the back of the Movie Masters card as “chase figure”, meaning *that* one that will be hardest to find. I’ve tried, but cannot locate any dealers on Amazon selling the Bruce Wayne Chase Figure, and can only find one on E-bay. Compare that to the dozens and dozens of the “rare” Joker figure that are for sale here and elsewhere.

Besides, Mattel is in this to make money, too, and do you honestly think that they will produce less of these once they see the price-gouging that is going on in the secondary market? Mattel has nothing to gain from scalpers, and more to gain from increasing supply for legitimate consumers. Expect that to happen.

And for those expecting this to be worth a lot some day, take a look at Batman Returns Catwoman; hard to find back in the day, and very expensive from dealers at the time. Nowadays, it is readily available from third party Amazon sellers for as low as $8.98.

Well the reason some sellers are jacking up the price is because there is a 1st wave version and a 2nd wave version. Now both models look almost identical but have subtle differences. The 1st wave was recalled and is no longer being sold, (thus sellers have raised their prices). This is because the jokers face was frightening children and the company decided to make a 2nd version that wouldn’t be as scary to kids. Now the reason why people have jacked up the price is because the first wave is much more authentic to heath ledgers joker from the movie and the second wave has the joker making a goofy expression instead of a scary one. Also another way to tell the difference between a 1st wave and 2nd wave model is if there are air holes on the sides of the package you have the 2nd wave model. The second wave model is out in stores but is hard to find and you should not purchase it for more than $20.00

Mattel’s TDK Movie Masters Joker is a good looking figure that is not worth more than $12. The joker card and evidence bag included are the best extras of the series, but it’s still just a baggie and a playing card. The figure has about 15 points of articulation, not DCUC or even Marvel Legends level, but better than most mass market toys. The figure bears a passing resemblance to Ledger and the painted face is nice and smudged; a boon for Mattel in that it shouldn’t look neat because neither does the film version.

Joker also comes with the knife shown in an earlier teaser poster, a nasty looking fillet knife. I’ve noticed in comparing mine with the pics of others online that most of these Movie Masters Jokers have a drastic, red lipstick smear on the right cheek. So if yours has one it’s okay, they were made that way. I’ve also noticed many have repainted theirs with varying results, I say lose the lipstick smear if you must but be cautious otherwise; if you mess up the paint you may not find another one to replace it with!

If you are a mass market toy collector you will want this figure, but at the prices I’ve read this selling for you’re better off waiting for Sideshow to release Hot Toys’ version of TDK figures later this summer. At least those are higher end and detailed figures worth that kind of dime.

Okay we are americans so yea our pockets get a little sticky. But come on i think the figure would be worth something later on if in mint condition so why try and get every ounce of nickles from fans who are victims of stingy sobs from walmart and target who take them first. Be fair, sell heath for a resonable price….cause you never know after the movie comes out you know they are gonna stock up the selfs with these jokers…now that is a smile on our faces….

This line of figures was very impressive to me. I did not expect it to be as good as i am seeing. This figure in particular is a great replication of the joker as to the other one which is to cartoon-y. I wish that it was respected more for it’s purpose (fellow batman fans) than for people who just want money. To bad that this figure came out after Mr. ledger’s death. so guess what, it isnt worth anything! wait and find it in stores. I dont think it’s that important to spend 70 bucks. thanks
